Alexi Ogando Remains Undefeated as Texas Rangers Defeat the Detroit Tigers

The Texas Rangers avoided the sweep last night by defeating the Detroit Tigers, 7 – 3.

Alexi Ogando gave up a first inning homer, but he didn’t leet that fluster him. Ogando settled down and gave up 6 hits in his next 7 2/3^rd while getting 7 K’s to improve his record to 7-0 on the season.

Ogando has become the first major league pitcher to win his first seven decisions as a starter since Jered Weaver went 9-0 for the Los Angeles Angels in 2006.

Elvis Andrus led the Rangers with 3 hits last night on his first day back after not playing in game 2 of the series. However, Andrus was caught stealing in the 1st to end his streak of 19 consecutive successful steals.

After getting down 1 – 0 in the 1^st the Rangers responded in the 2^nd to take the lead and

hold onto it for the rest of the game. After hitting 3 straight singles to load the bases, Craig Gentry hit a grounder fielder’s choice to 3^rd baseman Don Kelly but Kelly threw a wild ball over the catcher’s head to score Yorvit Torrealba and Chris Davis who collided with Kelly at home to jar the ball loose and score. This sparked the Rangers who scored 7 runs in the following innings to take a 7-1 lead into the 9th. The Tigers got 2 runs off closer Neftali Feliz to close the gap to 4 runs but the Rangers still got the win.

Ian Kinsler was placed on paternity leave for the game. His wife gave birth to their son earlier that day.

The Rangers had fired hitting coach Thad Bosley earlier in the day and promoted Scott Coolbaugh who was the hitting coach for Triple-A Round Rock

Prior the the game, the Rangers organization also announced they will be inducting former Ranger pitcher Kenny Rogers into the Ranger's Hall of Fame August 6th.
