Add Some Citrus To Your Holiday
You may not always think about citrus this time of year, but maybe that should change. Brenda Garcia with United Supermarkets joined us this week to talk about how adding citrus to holiday snacks and meals is a smart thing you can do.
According to Garcia, right now is the start of the citrus season and finding oranges right now is easy and tasty. United Supermarkets also has some great deals right now on citrus. According to Garcia, the two pound bag of Cuties is $1.97, but on your rewards account you can get $1.00 off. There are more great deals as well!
Garcia suggested chopping up oranges into a salad or even using a small slice in hot chocolate.
Oranges are a great source of Vitamin C and right now they are in season and juicy.
Last week, Garcia joined us this week to talk about the holiday season and different ideas when it comes to baking. Many people are on specialized diets which means regular flour and even butter may not be on the list of acceptable ingredients. Garcia talked about how United Supermarkets now carries so many alternative baking ingredients like nut butter and coconut oil. Garcia said that for rolls, you can use olive oil instead of butter. Making a cake or bread? Use apple sauce instead of butter.
Garcia suggested visiting happyandnourished.com to see a list of tips and tricks for backing alternatives. They also have a great Almond Flour Cookie recipe that you can use.
