The Texas Tech University System Board of Regents will meet Thursday and Friday to discuss a variety of issues. One item on the agenda is the demolition of the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum and Auditorium.

The demolition project, if approved, is speculated to cost no more than $3.5 million dollars, with demolition also rumored to begin in April of 2019. On Saturday, Dec. 15, the Texas Tech men’s basketball team will host their final throwback game at the coliseum.

Another issue the Board will potentially discuss is the prospect of alcohol sales at Texas Tech athletic events. Texas Tech Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt discussed the idea Wednesday during his radio show, hinting that it may come up at the Board of Regents meeting.

Hocutt also discussed the Dustin R. Womble Basketball Practice Facility, set to be built just west of the United Supermarkets Arena. Funding for construction of the facility is may be more than $10 million dollars, and Hocutt expects that figure to be approved by Friday.

Construction measures could begin as soon as December 19, 2018, with an official groundbreaking event scheduled for some time in late January 2019.

Construction for another Texas Tech facility is also expected to be approved by the Board, according to Hocutt. The $5.5 million dollar Student-Athlete Nutrition Center will be built near the Petersen Sports Performance Center.

Hocutt says the new building will have a state-of-the art kitchen that’ll serve the nutritional needs for all 415 current student-athletes.
