The Texas Tech Red Raiders notch their first Big 12 win of the season in impressive fashion as they knocked off the #9 ranked Iowa State Cyclones on Saturday by a score of 78-73.  Devaugntah Williams scored a career-high 22 points and Toddrick Gotcher added 17 to lead Texas Tech as they made 11 shots from behind the arc in the win.

''We didn't plan on shooting it,'' Texas Tech coach Tubby Smith said.  ''Shoot them when you're open, and we were open because of the way they were defending us.''  Gotcher made five of Texas Tech's 11 3-pointers, tying the team's high for the season. Williams, a junior transfer, added three 3s.

The Red Raiders led most of the way and were up 74-68 when Iowa State's Georges Niang tossed in a desperation 3-pointer from the corner with 43 seconds remaining.  Both Gotcher and Williams proceeded to each hit two free throws to help keep Texas Tech ahead.  Tech shot well above their season average (65.7%) at the free throw line as they shot 23-28 from the strike (82.1%) in Saturday’s win.

With the win, Tubby Smith and company improve to 11-9 on the year and 1-6 in Big 12 play.  They will look to build off the win over the Cyclones as they travel to Norman, Oklahoma to take on #19 Oklahoma who is coming off a 69-58 loss at #21 Baylor over the weekend as they fell to 12-7 on the year and 3-4 in conference play.  Tipoff for that game is set for Wednesday night at 6:30pm from the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman and can be seen on ESPNews.
