Texas Tech Plays Important Mid-Week Series in New Mexico
Texas Tech swept its fourth straight weekend series this weekend. The Red Raiders won nine straight games and last lost to no.9 ranked Florida State April 5. They've won 21 of the last 24 games.
Their 11-1 mark in the Big 12 is the best start in Texas Tech history.
Texas Tech now plays New Mexico this week in Albuquerque before returning home this weekend to resume Big 12 Baseball against the University of Texas, who are 15-20 on the season.
This week is huge for Texas Tech baseball. If you can take two out of three from Texas, or sweep them, you'll be in a great position to win the Big 12. I don't want to get ahead of the game, but it's certainly time to recognize how good this team is.
With a batting avg. north of .300 and an ERA south of 3.75, the weekend starters have an ERA closer to 2.00. The weekday starters have an ERA of around 6.00.
That's not to disparage, because the two of them have a winning record between the pair. That, and the opposing pitchers have roughly the same ERA and a worse team batting average.
Now, I know games are not won on paper, but you should have another mid-week sweep on your hands. There is no reason Texas Tech shouldn't sweep this series, and that is dangerous.
New Mexico and Texas Tech have met 111 times to play baseball and in 18 consecutive seasons. Tech does lead the series overall, but New Mexico owns the record in Albuquerque 24-23 over Texas Tech.
They played once already this year on March 22 with Texas Tech winning the first game.
