The #13 Texas Tech Lady Raiders opened up Big 12 Conference play with a 58-53 win over Oklahoma State at the United Spirit Arena.  With the win, Kristy Curry's team remains undefeated with a 13-0 (1-0) record and is tied for first place in the conference.

Kierra Mallard had a double-double for the Lady Raiders with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Monique Smalls scored 9 along with Jordan Barncastle who came off the bench.

The final five minutes of the game proved to be tough again for the Lady Raiders as the Cowgirls gained a 46-45 lead with 4:49 left. After the teams exchanged turnovers, the Lady Raiders regained the lead with a 3 pointer from Mary Bokenkamp with 3:37 left.

Two of Mallard's rebounds came in the final minute of the game as the Lady Raiders were protecting a slim lead that was 3 points or less.

After the game, both teams gathered on the court as the Court Jesters played the Oklahoma State and Texas Tech school songs. Wednesday's game was Oklahoma State's first conference game after the tragic deaths of head coach Kurt Budke and assistant coach Miranda Serna in a plane crash last November.
