Tubby Smith and the Texas Tech Red Raiders had their ten game home win streak snapped on Saturday as they fell to #11 ranked Texas Longhorns 70-61.  Tech would trail by as much as 20 points in this match up, but were able to make a run to get back within 66-59 with 1:19 remaining.  "Our defensive intensity, the trapping," Tech head coach Tubby Smith said.  "We forced them into some hurry-up situations.  They were trying to milk the clock and we got them playing a little faster than they wanted."

The Red Raiders struggled to deal with the size of the Longhorns as they were out-rebounded 41-29 along with the Longhorns having twice as many points off turnovers.  Tech’s big men got into foul trouble early in the second half which also played a part in Texas’ win on Saturday.  Zach Smith, Norense Odiase and Justin Jamison each had three fouls with ten minutes left in the game.

With the loss, the Red Raiders fall to 10-4 on the season and 0-1 in Big 12 play.  Texas Tech will now turn their attention to the West Virginia Mountaineers on Monday night as they look to earn their first conference win of the year.  Tip off for that game is set for 6pm from the United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock and can be seen on ESPNU.
