Former Texas Tech star defensive lineman, Colby Whitlock, was selected as the first pick in the 8th round of the 2011 UFL Draft by the Hartford Colonials. Whitlock, selected 37th overall, was one of five Big 12 players drafted in last night's UFL Draft.

Whitlock will join 4th round selection Ricky Henry, an OG from Nebraska, 7th round selection Greg Smith, a TE from Texas, Brad Thorson, an offensive lineman from Kansas and overall No.1 pick Jerrod Johnson from Texas A&m. QB Johnson was originally thought to be a late NFL Draft pick, but became the first player selected in the 2011 UFL Draft.

Whitlock finished his career at Texas Tech after the 2010 season.  As a senior he was named to the first team Big 12 and received various other awards throughout his career. During his senior year, Whitlock recorded 57 total tackles, two sacks, 8 1/2 tackles for loss and a fumble recovery.

He also had a successful Junior season at Texas Tech with 45 total tackles, three sacks, eight tackles for loss and a forced fumble.

Whitlock was the only player selected in the UFL draft from Texas Tech. Still available to become NFL free agents are ILB Brian Duncan, WR Detron Lewis, QB Taylor Potts, OLB Bront Bird and several others.

Baron Batch was the lone Red Raider to be drafted in the 2011 NFL Draft. Batch was selected as the 29th pick in the 7th round of the draft.
