Texas Rangers Win 2-1 After 3 Hour Rain Delay, Sweep St. Louis Cardinals
Ian Kinsler drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning as the Texas Rangers held on to beat the St. Louis Cardinals 2-1Sunday night in Busch Stadium.
Nick Tepesch earned the no-decision giving up a run on four hits in 5 2/3 innings. Robby Ross threw just 1/3 of inning of relief, but earned the win for Texas.
St. Louis starter Adam Wainwright was denied his 11th win on the season as he threw 6 2/3 innings giving up two runs, one of them earned, on six hits.
The Rangers swept the Cardinals and improved their record to 44-32 on the season and back in the lead of the A.L. West by a game over the Oakland Athletics. Texas has the day off before starting a three-game series on Tuesday in New York against the Yankees.
In other news and notes from Arlington, the Rangers have placed outfielder Craig Gentry on the 15-day disabled list for a fracture in his left hand. Gentry is placed on the DL retroactive to June 21st.
Gentry was hit by a pitch on June18th after an MRI revealed the fracture. Engel Beltre was recalled from Triple-A in time for yesterday's game.
