A sad tragedy took place tonight at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.  A fan fell out of the left field stands behind the scoreboard and plunged 20 feet to his death.

The incident happened during the second inning of tonight's Rangers-Athletics game.

The fan fell in the second inning while leaning over the front-row railing trying to catch a ball that had been tossed into the stands by left fielder Josh Hamilton.  The fan fell head first and struck a metal support bar before hitting the ground.

In a release, the Rangers state the fan was seated in Section 5. "We are deeply saddened that the man who fell has passed away as a result of this tragic accident," Rangers president Nolan Ryan said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family."

There were no other people injured in the incident.

The deceased fan's identity has not been released pending notification of family.
