A Ranger pressed into a spot start last night propelled the AL West leaders to a 2-0 win last night over the Tampa Bay Rays.  Scott Feldman gave up two hits and threw six scoreless innings as he picked up the win.

Josh Hamilton hit the first pitch of the sixth inning thrown by rookie right-hander Jeremy Hellickson (11-10) deep into a second deck of seats in right field. It landed an estimated 449 feet from home plate, his 19th homer, and broke a scoreless tie.

Michael Young followed with a double and scored on a single by David Murphy.

Feldman (1-0) allowed only two hits before Mark Lowe, Darren Oliver, Mike Adams combined for two no-hit innings to set up Neftali Feliz for his 26th save in 32 chances. It was the Rangers' 16th shutout this season and their lead over the Angles for the AL West lead is now 3.5 games.

The Rangers also made two roster moves before last night's game.  Outfielder Leonys Martin has joined the Texas Rangers, a year after defecting from Cuba.

Texas recalled Martin from Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday after placing right fielder Nelson Cruz on the 15-day disabled list. Martin, who left home last August, had been in the Rangers' minor league system since signing a $15.5 million, five-year contract in May.

Cruz sustained a left hamstring strain Sunday.

Right-hander Darren O'Day was also placed on the DL, retroactive to Thursday, with right shoulder inflammation. The Rangers purchased the contract of right-hander Mark Hamburger from Round Rock and released right-hander Ryan Tucker.

Martin hit .295 in 73 games combined in Arizona, Double-A Frisco and Round Rock.
