Metta World Peace/Ron Artest has been sentenced by the league to a seven game suspension. David Stern announced the suspension in a statement as well addressed the dangers posed by players behaving in such a manner.

Stern was quoted as saying, "The concussion suffered by James Harden demonstrates the danger posed by violent acts of this kind, particularly when they are directed at the head area,” we remain committed to taking necessary measures to protect the safety of NBA players, including the imposition of appropriate penalties for players with a history of on-court altercations.”

Artest is know for violent outburst in him time in the league, but this particular incident almost seems inexcusable. To refresh everyone's memory, check out the World Peace-James Harden confrontation.

Seven games seems slight compared to the magnitude of the incident as well as the players history. It may seem coincidental, but the suspension will most likely not effect the Lakers and their playoff hopes. Artest will miss the season finale, and the first six games of the playoffs if the Lakers make it that far. It sounds silly, but David Stern understands who the most marketable teams in the league are, and you can guarantee he won't do anything to hurt them in the playoffs. Looking to much into it?
