Lubbock police officers were called to the 3500 block of 38th Street Wednesday night (Dec. 26th) for reports of shots fired. The report came just before 10 p.m.

Officers located a male with a gunshot wound upon arrival. He was transported to UMC with serious injuries, and was later pronounced deceased. Later, Lubbock Police Department confirmed his identity: 43-year-old Oliver Perez.

Initial reports indicate the male was attempting to burglarize vehicles and homes in the area when he was shot by a homeowner.

An investigation is ongoing.
