Lubbock Christian University (47-12) defeated Sooner Athletic Conference rival Oklahoma Baptist University (45-13) 7-2 Friday night in the opening round of NAIA World Series in Lewiston, ID.

LCU jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they took a 7-0 lead to the ninth inning as the Bison rally garnered 2 runs but, Tyler Curtis came in for Lucas Whitmore to end the rally and give the Chaps 1-0 record in the World Series.

Whitmore (10-2) went 8.1 innings giving up 2 runs on 3 hits and striking out 9 as Richie Mirowski (11-2) took the loss for OBU going 6.2 innings with giving up 6 runs, 4 of them earned, on 11 hits and 4 strikeouts.

At the plate, the Chaps had 8 of 9 batters in the lineup produce a hit with 3 extra base hits led by Austin Stewart's 2 doubles and and a RBI.

LCU will play Monday night at 9 p.m. against the winner Lewis and Clark State (37-14) or SAC rival Oklahoma City (46-10).
