The 6th seeded Lubbock Christian University Women’s Basketball team defeated the Tennessee based program and 2nd seeded Bethel University today by a final score of 66 to 60, to advance to the Elite Eight of the NAIA National Championship.

The Lady Chaps were led by guard Brittany Hampton who finished the game with 15 points. Hampton also hit a career milestone during the contest as she recorded her 1,000th point with the LCU program. The Lady Chaps also received solid outings from Haley Burton and Renee Wilson who each added 13 and 11 points, respectively.

It will be the Lady Chaps third trip to the Elite Eight in program history, where they will face the winner between No. 1 Azusa Pacific out of California and No. 4 Lindsey Wilson out of Kentucky Saturday afternoon with a 4 O’clock tip-off time.

Lubbock Christian Picks up Six-Point Victory over Bethel, 66-60, at 2011 NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship

Hampton scored her 1,000th-career point with a 3-pointer early in game

JACKSON, Tenn. - (Box Score) Lubbock Christian (Texas) clinched its third quarterfinal appearance in eight trips to the NAIA Division I Women's Basketball National Championship with a 66-60 victory against Bethel (Tenn.) Friday in Oman Arena. With the win, the Lady Chaparrals improve their record to 23-9 and will take on Azusa Pacific (Calif.) Saturday at 4 p.m. CDT.

Bethel's season comes to a close with a record of 27-7 as the Lady Wildcats exit from their third National Championship appearance.

Brittany Hampton's 3-pointer at the 13:44 mark in the first half was the junior's 1,000th-career point and tied the game at 12-12 after the Lady Chaps got behind by eight points early. The first half of action featured four ties, with Bethel's largest lead being eight points and Lubbock Christian's at four. At the break, the Lady Chaps held a slight 33-31 advantage.

The Lubbock Christian held its lead throughout the second half, with the largest margin coming at 4:59 on a trey from Renee Wilson, 57-46. Bethel scraped its way back, but got no closer than six points in the final minute.

Three Lady Chaps had double-figure scoring efforts in the win. Hampton finished as the game's leading scorer with 15 points, knocking down 8-of-9 free throw attempts. Right behind her with a 13-point performance was Haley Burton and Renee Wilson with 11 points. The Lubbock Christian defense forced Bethel into 22 turnovers and held the Lady Wildcats to just 25 percent from the field in the second half.

Bethel had a trio of players put forth double-figure rebounding efforts, including a double-double by Jana Roney with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Darnisha Lyles was the game's leading rebounder with 11 and Teena Carter pulled down 10 boards of her own. Molly Wallsmith contributed 10 points.
