Houston Texans Resign Safety Troy Nolan

Houston Texans resign safety Troy Nolan to replace safety Quintin Demps who’s out with a broken left arm.

Nolan was waived by Houston during the last round of roster cuts and signed with the Miami Dolphins where he played three games before being released. He’s the ideal replacement to step in as he’s familiar with the defensive coaches and system they run.

Nolan was drafted by the Texans in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He played in 30 games for Houston, with six starts.

He has three career interceptions, all with the Texans in 2009.

Demps has undergone surgery on his broken arm. His return hasn’t been determined, but head coach Gary Kubiak said he won’t be placed on injured reserve just yet.

Other injury news of note of Houston prepares for Monday night’s game at the New York Jets. Starting right-guard Antoine Caldwell has a sprained right ankle and is day-to-day, while running back Ben Tate has a toe injury and did not participate in Monday’s walk-through practice.

Caldwell left Sunday's win over the Titans early in the second quarter. Rookie Ben Jones played the remainder of the game.

The extent of Tate’s injury is still being determined. Justin Forsett would be the back-up to Arian Foster should Tate miss some time.

“Ben’s got a toe bothering him,” Kubiak said. “We’re getting some X-rays on that, and we’ll find out where we’re at on Thursday.”
