Houston Falls to Minnesota 3-1

The Houston Astros fell last night at the hands of the Minnesota Twins by a final score of 3-1.  Starter Brett Oberholtzer had another solid outing for Houston, but little run support once again led to a loss for the Astros.  Oberholtzer went seven innings giving up just one run on six hits, but the Astros lineup managed just six hits in Wednesday's loss.

Kyle Gibson earned the win for Minnesota as he tossed essentially the same game as Houston's Oberholtzer.  Gibson went just over seven innings while also giving up one run on six hits.  Houston manager Bo Porter said there was no denying Gibson's stuff on Wednesday, but that doesn't excuse some of the home team's inability to push the runs across.  "[It was] a little bit of both," Porter said.  "I felt like he really threw the ball well, with a power sinker, threw his cutter in on lefties and the slider was short and quick.  That said, we missed some great opportunities."

With the loss, the Astros now sit at just 50-71 on the year which is 23.5 games back in the American League West.  Houston will begin a three game weekend series against the Boston Red Sox today with first pitch for that game set for 6:10pm from Fenway Park in Boston.  The pregame will begin at 5:45pm and you can hear all the action right here on sports radio 1340 the fan.
