Houston Astros owner Jim Crane (pictured) has announced that the Astros will keep their name when they move to the American League in 2013.

Crane said, “One thing that we are not going to change is the name. We received strong feedback and consensus among season ticket holders and many fans, and we will not change the name Astros. The Houston Astros are here to stay.” The announcement was made in a message to season ticket holders.

The Astros are currently in a full-fledged rebuilding mode both on, and off, the field in their final National League season.

The upcoming season is Crane's first since taking over as owner.  Crane has already announced new fan-friendly initiatives designed to increase attendance like lower ticket prices and the allowance of fans to bring food and water with them to Minute Maid Park.
