The Houston Astros got another excellent pitching performance from ace Dallas Keuchel, an offensive punch from Evan Gattis and Chris Carter as they defeated the Oakland Athletics 6-1 Wednesday at Minute Maid Park.

Keuchel improved his record to 6-0 and lowered his ERA to 1.67 giving up one unearned run on six hits, two walks and four strikeouts in seven innings of work.

The Astros went 7-2 on the nine-game homestand improving their record to 27-14, the best start in franchise history.

"We had a pretty complete homestand when it comes to competing, pitching, defense and some timely hitting," said Astros manager A.J. Hinch. "We saw a little bit of it today, and it encompassed the whole homestand. I'm proud of this group."

Gattis’ homerun off A’s starter Jesse Hahn (1-4) snapped a 1-1 tie. Hahan allowed three runs and five hits, and he walked two batters and struck out six in six innings.

After going 1 for 11 with runners in scoring position and leaving 10 runners on base, Oakland is now 14 games under .500 and are 13 ½ games behind the first place Astros.

Houston opens a four-game series at Detroit at 12:08 p.m. Thursday at CoMerica Park.

The Astros will send veteran right-hander Scott Feldman (3-4, 5.06 ERA) to the mound to face David Price (3-1, 3.40).

You can hear Thursday’s game on Sports Radio 1340 beginning with the pre-game at 11:40 a.m.
